Navigarda: 2023 record with 2.5 million passengers carried

A record-breaking season, with passenger traffic on 31 August already up 7.5% compared to the same period in 2022; a figure that is expected to reach double-digit positive figures by the end of the year.

These are the first results of the 2023 season presented yesterday afternoon during the conference on board the motorship Italia, moored at Riva del Garda.

The Governmental Manager Donato Liguori, together with Giuseppe Mafale, Director of Esercizio Navigazione Lago di Garda, confirmed the good traffic trend on all three lakes managed by the Governmental Authority (a total of 10 million passengers), underlining the desire of Gestione Laghi to be able to make its own contribution and be more and more an active part of the development that the tourism segment brings to the local economy."Since I took office in March 2022," commented the Government Manager, "we have worked with the objective of continuing to offer an effective and efficient transport service that effectively responds to the needs of the territory in terms of service frequency and frequency, capillarity and quality. We are very satisfied because the data are giving us confirmation of the effectiveness of the action undertaken. The numbers are also growing in terms of bicycles, with an increase of even 49% since 2019. Territorial synergy has been fundamental in reaching these objectives: there are numerous experiences of collaboration launched throughout the territory; among these is the initiative launched with Garda Dolomiti - Azienda per il turismo, the Trentino Guest Card, which in 2023 achieved unexpected results". "Encouraging numbers, also achieved thanks to the commitment of Minister Salvini, who has worked to allow the government body to reuse the 2022 financial year funds, and which show how the Lake Authority's transport service can produce important results". Thus the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Sen. Alessandro Morelli, who also went on to launch a request to Navigazione Lago di Garda to give a concrete signal to contribute to the tourist deseasonalisation process by postponing the end of the autumn timetable to the first ten days of November and anticipating the restart of services as early as the beginning of March.

"The government," concluded Morelli, "through the Government Management intends to start an extension of the offer of transport services that can reach the inland territories and those bordering the lake shores through different forms of transport."
Deseasonalising is the watchword.

Liguori reiterated: 'We have tried to deseasonalise and propose services that go beyond passenger transport alone. This is the mandate we have from the transport ministry'.

The season will continue until 12 November, then, during the winter period, only the ferry on the Torri-Maderno route will remain active, but already at the beginning of March 2024 boat services will resume.

Undersecretary Morelli also mentioned the Rovereto-Riva rail link project, among the strategic works for rail mobility agreed between the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport and Rete Ferrovie Italiana (we wrote about it here): "When the project is implemented," said Morelli, "we will have a great opportunity to change the face of Lake Garda and its road system. I hope the work can be realised soon, Minister Salvini has given clear indications in this regard".
