LINO SELVATICO (1872 – 1924). IL PITTORE DELLE GRAN DAME

He has been called the Annigoni of the early 20th century. Lino Selvatico, it is about him that we are talking about, as Annigoni specialised above all in portraits, as Annigoni was invited to portray crowned heads, as Annigoni was able to elaborate national (Boldini, above all) and international (Sargent, Gainsborough, Reynolds, Rommey etc.) references in an absolutely original way.

To Selvatico, Venetian by origin but Treviso by adoption, the Civic Museums of Treviso are dedicating an extensive retrospective exhibition on the centenary of his death, which occurred here on 25 July 1924 following an accident while he was riding his motorbike. A dutiful homage also linked to the acquisition, by the family's will, of a consistent number of works: about 70 paintings and over 200 drawings.

The Civic Museums of Venice and numerous other public and private lenders are collaborating on the exhibition. The Venetian museum institution, and the Treviso museums, were the recipients of the Selvatico family archives. An important family for Venice: their father Riccardo, playwright and poet, was its mayor and founder of the famous Biennale.
The exhibition will end on 31 March 2024.
